Resumo
O lançamento da primeira bienal de artes paulistana, em dezembro de 1950, pode ser considerado um momento de inflexão para o Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo (MAM/SP). A montagem de uma exposição inspirada na Bienal de Veneza, muito além de reposicionar o MAM/SP no cenário artístico, almejava celebrar um novo tempo de conquistas para a cidade e para a nação no segundo pós-guerra. O presente artigo aborda o contexto de realização das primeiras bienais paulistanas e, mais especificamente, discorre sobre os projetos arquitetônicos desenvolvidos para abrigá-las.
Abstract
The launch of the first arts biennial in São Paulo, in December 1950, can be considered a turning point for the Sao Paulo Museum of Modern Art (MAM/SP). The organization of an exhibition inspired by the Venice Biennale can be viewed as a strategy to replace the role of the MAM/SP in the art scene. Beyond that, the exhibition intended to celebrate a new era of achievement for the city and nation in the second post-war. This article explores the context of realization of the first Sao Paulo Biennial editions and, more specifically, discusses the architectural projects designed to house them.
