Resumo
No cenário de valorização das culturas periféricas dos anos 90, a exposição Brazil Projects, realizada no P.S.1 de Nova York, em 1988, foi um marco inicial de extrema importância para a projeção da arte contemporânea brasileira em território americano. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estabelecer um percurso sobre a exposição Brazil Projects:, através dos artigos publicados no exterior, analisando as diferentes formas de recepção deste projeto na mídia americana. O intuito foi verificar se a diversidade presente no contexto cultural local transpareceu nas leituras e no entendimento da crítica internacional, identificando os principais pontos convergentes e divergentes deste olhar.Palavras Chave: arte contemporânea brasileira, Nova York, crítica de arte.
Abstract
In the context of growing interest in marginal cultures of the 90’s, Brazil Projects, presented at the P.S.1 in New York in 1988, was a milestone for the dissemination of the brazilian contemporary art in the american cultural circuit. The aim of this work is to analyze the publications about the show in the american media and to verify whether the diversity present in the local context are in agreement with international criticism, revealing the convergent and divergent points of view beteween american and brazilian critics.
