Resumo
A cidade de João Pessoa, capital da Paraíba, foi a terceira cidade criada no Brasil colonial em 05 de agosto 1585. O Largo São Frei Pedro Gonçalves, que está situado no seu Centro Histórico, é objeto do presente trabalho. As modificações arquitetônicas ocorridas ali, foram implantadas vagarosamente e sem destruição do patrimônio construído, tanto é que aquele cenário conserva-se muito parecido à sua feição inicial. O processo de revitalização ocorrido em 2012 configurou-se como a última intervenção na área. Atualmente o Largo abriga eventos culturais e sociais além dos acontecimentos do cotidiano da urbe. O local poderia apresentar maior urbanidade, caso houvesse mais incentivo pelo poder público em fomentar eventos adequados a área.
Abstract
The city of João Pessoa, capital of Paraíba, was the third city in the colonial Brazil created on August 5, 1585. The Largo São Frei Pedro Gonçalves, which is situated in the Historical Centre, is object of this study. In that place the architectural modifications were deployed slowly and without destruction of the built heritage. It is true because the current scenario is very similar to its initial feature. The process of revitalization occurred in 2009 was the last intervention in the area. Nowadays the square hosts cultural and social events and the events of daily life of the metropolis. The place could present greater urbanity, if there was more incentive by the government to encourage appropriate area events.
